In this blog I am doing a review for the cartoon movie called Belleville Rendez-vous.
The story is mainly focused on Madame Souza. Souza is an elderly woman raising her young grandson called Champion.
Many years Champion becomes a professional cyclist with Souza as his coach. Champion enters the Tour de France but during the race he is kidnapped by two French Mafia henchmen.
Madame Souza along with her dog called Bruno must embark on an adventure to rescue Champion.
The movie is inspired from the 1920s.
Now let’s started with the review:
I thought the animation in this film was excellent. Throughout the whole film the animation moved very well. The animation in this movie is caricatured. Overall I didn’t see any flaws in the animation. The movement was realistic.
I thought the motion for each character, animal and vehicle was very good. I think they determined these by doing research. They must have done a lot of research on the vehicles because their motions were different in the 1920s. Overall the motion for each character and vehicle was very realistic.
The concept was very good. I like the cartoon idea. Also the transitions in this film were very good, especially when it was used for switching scenes. The location in the film takes place in France and the city called Belleville.
The environments in the film were used quite well as it was used to show you when time has passed as at some points the environment was seasons changing and from that you can tell that they were speeding up time.
The structure in the film was very clear. It was easy to know the beginning, middle and the end of the story.
The audio in this movie is very important. This is because there is hardly any speech between characters. The audio is needed to help understand what is going in the movie. Without the audio it would be really hard to understand the movie.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Here are the strengths and weaknesses I thought were in the film:
- The animation movement and motion was very good
- The storytelling is clear and simple to understand
- Music choice is good as it sets the tone in each situation (e.g emotion)
- Transitions were very done very well (e.g. switching scenes)
- The movie did get a bit boring after a while for me.
Overall though I thought the movie Belleville Rendez-vous was very well made and I recommend you check it out.
